Bio
Matt Robertson is an artist based in the UK, with a long-standing background in the creative industry as a master image manipulator and 3D artist. His career has been shaped by years of crafting high-end visuals for digital media, but a recent discovery of a local printmaking studio sparked a shift in his creative direction. Gradually immersing himself in traditional print techniques, Matt found a new outlet for his artistic voice – one that embraces the texture, imperfection, and discipline of analogue processes.
Combining contemporary image making techniques and employing state-of-the-art software, his designs are sometimes sombre, mostly reflective, and laced with a dark sense of humour – images that invite a second glance and suggest stories beneath the surface. This renewed focus on physical process and material has allowed Matt to reconnect with image-making on a more personal level, grounding his creativity in the tangible while still carrying echoes and shades of the digital realm all around us.
There’s a tension between beauty and unease among Matt’s work which invites contemplation on themes of duality, hidden truths, and the fragility of perception. It is this interplay of beauty and dread that leaves an indelible mark on the mind, haunting long after the gaze has shifted away.
