Desecrated Geometry: Part I
Desecrated Geometry: part I is a meditation on the fragility of meaning and the human impulse to impose myth upon form. This collection reimagines the five Platonic solids not as pristine ideals of harmony and balance, but as fractured vessels, distorted by the very beliefs that once gave them power. These ancient shapes, once thought to represent the fundamental elements of existence, have become weighted with centuries of symbolic projection, co-opted by ideologies, mysticism, and systems of control.
Each solid in the series is desecrated (burned, bled, bound, or broken) reflecting how symbols can be hollowed out by misuse. The Tetrahedron ignites with the fever of unchecked ambition; the Hexahedron strains against the roots of inherited myth; the Octahedron decays under the suffocating pressure of belief; the Icosahedron hemorrhages the very fluid it once embodied; and the Dodecahedron, symbol of the universe itself, is splintered beyond recognition – its mystery not revered, but consumed.
Through these forms, Desecrated Geometry explores how we project significance onto structure in search of order, purpose, and control – often to destructive ends. It questions whether meaning elevates these shapes, or distorts them under the weight of human contradiction. These works serve as cautionary relics, revealing the cost of our desire for certainty in a world that resists simplification.
In desecrating these once-sacred geometries, the series reflects a deeper truth: that symbols are only as pure as the intentions behind them – and that even the most perfect forms are vulnerable to the flaws of those who worship them.
Sliced Icosahedron
In Sliced Icosahedron, the symbol of water (long associated with intuition and healing) is ruptured and bleeding. The once-harmonious geometry of the icosahedron is violently cut open, its smooth symmetry broken. From its core, liquid seeps not with the clarity of life, but with the dark, visceral presence of blood. Water, the element of renewal, now speaks of loss, distortion, and emotional collapse. The artist reimagines the icosahedron as a wounded vessel, drained of its original meaning and transformed into a symbol of exploited vulnerability. Its oozing form suggests not just physical decay, but the erosion of trust and the quiet violence of suppressed truths. Sliced Icosahedron stands as a stark reminder of how fluidity (when unchecked or manipulated) can turn corrosive, flooding the collective psyche with fear, grief, and disillusionment.
Swollen Dodecahedron
This artwork depicts a swollen, near-bursting dodecahedron – traditionally a symbol of the universe – on the verge of an imperfect, possibly disappointing creation. It challenges the assumed power of sacred geometry, suggesting that symbols hold no inherent meaning until we project our own desires or agendas onto them. The piece questions the authenticity and authority of symbolic systems, revealing their fragility and human dependence.
Toxic Octahedron
In this print, the Octahedron, symbol of air and balance, transforms into a foreboding artifact of toxicity and decay. Its sharp, crystalline edges seem to pierce through a haze of corrupted atmosphere, as if eroded by the very element it represents. Subtle textures of billowing smoke and corrosive stains creep across its mirrored faces, suggesting the suffocating weight of belief systems that overreach, distort, and collapse under their own myths. The artist portrays the Octahedron as a cautionary symbol – once a beacon of harmony, now a haunting reminder of the dangers inherent in the unchecked power of influence and propaganda.
Seething Tetrahedron
In this piece, the Tetrahedron (symbol of fire, willpower, and transformation) is consumed by the very element it embodies. Flames rise from within, not as an external threat, but as an internal unraveling. Its sharp edges glow with intensity, yet crack under the heat of their own ambition. The artist portrays the tetrahedron not as a stable form, but as a volatile structure teetering between illumination and self-destruction. Fire, once a force of clarity and creation, becomes a devouring obsession – an echo of unchecked desire, ego, and relentless drive. This is not a phoenix rising, but a star collapsing under its own brilliance. The Tetrahedron burns not to light the way, but to reveal the cost of relentless striving: a geometry undone by its own inner fire.
Entangled Hexahedron
In this work, the Hexahedron (symbol of earth, stability, and structure) struggles against its own origins. Tangled in sinewy tendrils that rise from the ground like grasping roots or ancient myths, the cube strains to break free, its rigid form tilting, lifting, resisting. Yet, it remains bound – its escape arrested by the very earth it represents. The artist renders the hexahedron not as an emblem of strength, but as a metaphor for the human condition: minds that reach skyward, dreaming, calculating, imagining – yet inescapably tied to their physical, emotional, and ancestral foundations. The geometry of order becomes a creature of tension, caught between liberation and dependency. This Hexahedron is not grounded – it is haunted by ground itself. A symbol of yearning, entrapment, and the paradox of being both visionary and vulnerable.
